The Mayor for the remainder of the municipal year 2016/2017 is Cllr John Lewer
Following the Full Council meeting on Tuesday 24th January 2017, Councillor John Lewer was elected as Mayor of Shaftesbury for the remainder of the municipal year 2016/17.
John Lewer has lived in Shaftesbury since 2004, and for 20 years before that, just over the border in Wiltshire. He has a degree in Electronic engineering and spent the bulk of his career lecturing in computing and other technical subjects at the Army's School of Signals in Blandford. In semi-retirement he worked as a self-employed electrician. Now fully retired, he joined the Council in 2010. For most of that time he has chaired the Planning and Highways Committee, before being elected Mayor in January 2017.
Councillor Lester Taylor was elected Deputy Mayor at the meeting of Full Council on 24th January 2017

The Town Council employs seven staff who are all based in Shaftesbury. The staff are divided into two departments – office and grounds. The office staff are based in the Town Hall in Shaftesbury and consist of a Town Clerk and three full time members of staff. The grounds team are based at Wincombe Business Park.
