Business Manager

Are you passionate about the difference you make in your job?  Do you have the skills, ambition and leadership qualities to ensure the highest quality of service is provided to our community?  Would you like to work with us to make Shaftesbury a great place to live, work, play and visit?  We have a wonderful opportunity for a professional Business Manager, with the right aptitude, to join our team in this exciting new role.

Reporting to, and working alongside, the Town Clerk your role will be to promote and develop Shaftesbury Town Council within the local community, the County of Dorset, and beyond.  Shaftesbury is a beautiful and thriving market town in the far north of Dorset.  Home to around 8,000 people, a very popular tourist spot with a rich and interesting history.  Remember the Hovis bread advert, the boy pushing his bike up a cobbled hill? That could be the view from your office window!

Although the successful applicant will hold, or be prepared to achieve CiLCA qualification, and have a sound knowledge of current local government legislation and governance, this role is not focused only on the Deputy Town Clerk general duties.  A significant element of this new role is the requirement to secure funding and develop new business for the council and building and expanding customer relationships within our community.  As Business Manager, you will manage the Office, Grounds and Pool Teams inspiring them to expand and grow our business, seeking out opportunities that will enrich the impact of Shaftesbury Town Council within the town.

Demonstrable experience of complex project management and being a confident public speaker are essential elements of this new role, as are sound negotiation and influencing skills.

You will liaise very closely with our Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Councillors, working with them transforming their business strategy and long-term plan into reality.

This full-time role is a pensionable position (LGPS) with a salary banding of 35 - 38 on the NJC spine point scale (£30,480 - £33,106) and a performance related plan will be discussed with the successful candidate.

Shaftesbury Town Council is an equal opportunities employer and welcomes applications from everyone who meets our person specification.

To apply, send your CV and covering letter to Claire Commons, Town Clerk, Town Hall, High Street, Shaftesbury SP7 8LY or email clairecommons@shaftesbury-tc.gov.uk by 29th August 2017.

If you would like to discuss the Business Manager opportunity with the Town Clerk telephone appointments are available on 21st and 22nd August.  Call 01747 852420 to make an appointment.
